What is the Pastoral Apprenticeship Program?
It’s for anyone who is exploring their call to vocational ministry. In partnership with The Alliance Canada, this program gives you practical, hands-on experience and mentorship opportunities as you take your Bachelors or Masters at any accredited Canadian Bible college.
Alongside your theological education, you will meet with other pastoral apprentices and mentors to help you grow in ministry, discover your calling and give you hands on experience in a church context.
Based on your interests and gifts, you will explore different ministries within Peace Portal Church like Spiritual Formation, Care Ministry, Youth and more.
What can I expect?
ThePastoral Apprenticeship runs from September to April, the typical length of an academic school year. The pastoral apprenticeship seeks to form future church leaders through practical training, spiritual mentorship, and theological education and reflection in a local church hub setting.

Complete your Bachelors or Masters level theological education at any accredited Canadian Bible college with lectures, corresponding assignments and exams.

We want to grow you in your gifts and help you experience a variety of places to serve in ministry. Learn and grow in areas such as preaching, worship, teaching, pastoral care, administration, and local mission at Peace Portal Church.

You will meet together with other pastoral apprentices to learn about leadership topics. The first term is focused on the spiritual formation as a leader and the second term is focused on leading others.

You will meet monthly with a mentor who will:
Provide regular feedback and evaluation
Guide your spiritual and vocational discernment
Help you connect academic learning with ministry practice

I've loved the community of peers and mentors in this program: learning together, asking questions, diving deeper, and encouraging one another along the way. This apprenticeship has led me to serving in areas I probably would never have stepped into on my own which has opened up doors to meet new people and see new areas of Peace Portal that I hadn't yet experienced. I am thankful for the ways this program has stretched me and I am excited to lean into the growth that God has for me as I take my next steps.

This program has been such an answer to prayer for me. The courses I'm taking already are not only enriching my personal relationship with God, but are sharpening the ways I lead worship, serve the local church, and witness to others. I love the regular opportunities to be mentored by the amazing pastors and leaders at Peace Portal, and to be given the chance to ask deeper questions about how to mature in leadership. While I am being stretched and challenged, I also feel affirmed in my gifts and I'm excited to discover more of how God wants to use me in His plans!

Joining this program made sense practically for me, as I had already been serving in multiple ministries at Peace Portal and in the surrounding community. I saw the internship as an opportunity to further my experience and development in ministry leadership, as well as a period to discern ministry as a potential vocation. This has certainly happened! I have had opportunities to learn and serve alongside such caring, thoughtful, and knowledgeable pastoral mentors and teachers in our sessions and during church ministry. What I think has stood out to me the most is how much positive spiritual growth has occurred in my own life during this time. I have seen God continue to guide me down a pathway to holiness. I am extremely excited for what the future holds in Bible school, ministry, and spiritual growth.
